Matthew Scheuer, LCSW
Hi! I’m Matthew Scheuer (He/Him) — a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Army veteran, and Director of Mental Health Partnerships at Empower Wellness NY, where I’m passionate about strengthening communities by expanding access to mental health care, wellness resources, and opportunities for youth to thrive.
My Story
I currently serve as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Army veteran, and Director of Mental Health Partnerships with Empower Wellness NY, as well as a co-founder and leader at Mobile Counseling of New York. My work focuses on trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and life transitions, supporting individuals across the lifespan—including veterans, youth, couples, and families—through both in-person and community-based care.
I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Rutgers University, and my passion for this work is deeply rooted in both my professional training and lived experience. I served 13 years in the Army, including two combat deployments, where I gained a firsthand understanding of the emotional and psychological impact of high-stress environments and life transitions. Those experiences continue to shape how I show up today—with empathy, perspective, and a strong belief that resilience can be built, even in the face of adversity.
Through my work with Mobile Counseling of New York, I’ve been committed to expanding access to mental health care, particularly for underserved communities. I believe that care should be accessible, community-based, and responsive to the real challenges people face every day.
Empower Wellness NY aligns closely with my values because it takes a holistic approach to well-being—addressing not just mental health, but also physical wellness, community connection, and opportunity. I am especially passionate about investing in youth, because they are not only the future, but the foundation of what our communities will become. When we create access, mentorship, and support early on, we create lasting impact.
Over the next few years, I hope to help Empower Wellness continue to grow its impact across New York State by strengthening partnerships, expanding access to care, and creating more opportunities for youth and families to thrive. My goal is to help build stronger, more connected communities where individuals feel supported, empowered, and equipped to overcome challenges.
Outside of my work, I value spending time with family, staying active, and finding balance through activities that support both mental and physical well-being.
